Doing the Right Thing

Outdoor Lighting & Energy has operated a certified recycling program for many years. It’s the right thing to do, and the law now requires it. We also properly recycle cardboard, paper, plastic, aluminum, copper and steel.

OL&E contracts with the same end-of-the-line recycling company that General Motors uses. Southeast Recycling Technologies recycles 100% of what comes in to their Johnson City, TN facility. They don’t have a dumpster on site. They welcome visitors as well as GM auditors to their plant.

Keeping the "Green" in the Carolinas

Even the shirts on our backs are "green". We buy from TS Designs in Burlington, NC. The shirts are made in NC. They’re 100% cotton, printed with water based inks. For most of them, the cotton comes right out of a Carolina cotton field. 0% sweatshop labor. 0% pesticides used. Our employees love them !

Energy Tip

Each year, an estimated 600 million fluorescent lamps are disposed of in U.S. landfills amounting to 30,000 pounds of mercury waste.

100 four-foot long fluorescent lamps contain about 4 grams of mercury. It only takes 1 teaspoon of mercury to contaminate a 20-acre lake -- forever.

That’s why it’s important to recycle. All lamps (except incandescent bulbs) should be recycled to keep mercury out of our landfills.
